Stephen David Murakami is a native of Hawaii, the Aloha State. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and did one tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam (1968-1970). He attended the University of Oregon as an undergraduate majoring in Renaissance Literature and Asian Studies, graduating with Honors and elected to Phi Beta Kappa (1974).

Law School
In 1976 he returned to Eugene, Oregon to attend the University of Oregon Law School to study Ocean Resources Law and International Law. He also attended Tokyo University Law School for International Law Studies in Japan before obtaining his JD in May 1979.
Biography
Mr. Murakami spent time abroad working for a Japanese International law firm (1979), in Tokyo, Japan, and later moved to Berlin, West Germany in 1980 to take up employment with a German International law firm. His areas of practice include Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Litigation, Mass Toxic Torts, Medical Malpractice and Securities Litigation and Consumer Rights. His Securities clients while at the Robert Weiss Law Firm included more than 2,000 WorldCom Claimants. Mr. Murakami and his Securities Arbitration and Litigation Team was successful in obtaining substantially higher recoveries for this group of victims over what they would have been entitled to under the WorldCom Class Action Settlement. Mr. Murakami and Robert Weiss obtained one of the few multimillion dollar punitive damages award from Citigroup in the WorldCom Arbitrations. Mr. Murakami has been a member of the American Association for Justice (formerly known as ATLA) since 2000 and The New York State Bar Assn. since1982. He also serves as a Co-chairman on the AAJ Securities Litigation Group since 2006. Most recently, The Weiss Firm was appointed to the Bisphenol-A (BPA) Polycarbonate Plastic Multi District Litigation (MDL-1967) Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee. Mr.Murakami and Mr. Weiss filed the first Bisphenol-A Consumer Class Action Lawsuit in the country, in March 2007.
